The Star Scoop:
A lot has been going on for you since we last talked. You have a new show, iCarly, coming out.
Miranda Cosgrove:
Right, really soon. September 8th. I'm excited. I can't wait till all my friends see it.
The Star Scoop:
For those who haven't heard about iCarly, how would you describe it?
Cosgrove:
Mainly, it's just about a girl who is like a normal teenager going through life, and she's dealing with boys, friends, and all the same things normal teenagers are dealing with, but she also has a super popular web show, and she's kind of underground famous.
The Star Scoop:
What was the process like for you getting this show?
Cosgrove:
Basically, Drake and Josh has the same executive producer, Dan Schneider, so I'd known him for a while, because I did Drake and Josh for like almost five years, so we were good friends. He came up with the idea for iCarly. It was a little different when we first came up with it; it was a TV show instead of a webshow. He ended up changing it to a webshow, which is even more original. It's been fun getting to work with him again.
The Star Scoop:
Is it different for you to go from not being the main character on a show to going into a show that has your character's name on it?
Cosgrove:
Well, I do have more lines and stuff, so I guess it's a little bit harder. At first, I was kind of nervous about it, but I think I'm on the 19th episode, and I just know everybody so well on set, and I'm just having a good time, [so] it's not a big deal anymore. But it seems like as the weeks go on, it gets a lot easier.
The Star Scoop:
Do you feel like iCarly is going to make you even more popular with teens?
Cosgrove:
I hope so. It's so much fun to get to meet fans, so, that'd be awesome...I can't wait to meet all the kids. I just can't wait to meet everybody and see all the crazy video talent we get.
The Star Scoop:
Why do you think iCarly will appeal to viewers?
Cosgrove:
It's like, internet is so big right now, and this is really the first TV show with internet, and kids can really interact with it. I hope that kids are going to be into that.
The Star Scoop:
Is this something you would be interested in? Would this kind of show appeal to you?
Cosgrove:
Yeah, that's actually why I thought the idea was so great when I first heard it. I was thinking like, just really being a kid, and watching TV all the time, it would be like a show that I would be into. I like hanging out with my friends and making little videos, so I know I'd want to send mine in.
The Star Scoop:
Are you anything like your character, Carly?
Cosgrove:
I'm a little like her. I mean, I'm really into like my family and friends and stuff, but then also she always has a plan for everything, and she's really good with that. But when things go wrong in my life, I usually go crazy and I have a friend that comes up with a plan.
The Star Scoop:
So you've been doing a lot of TV. Do you ever have any desire to venture off into movie roles?
Cosgrove:
Yeah, actually, that's what I want to do. So after the TV show, I hope that I start doing stuff. I'd love to get to work with actresses that I'm a big fan of.
The Star Scoop:
Being part of Nickelodeon for so long, do you feel like you're a role model? How do you make sure that you're being a good role model for young girls?
Cosgrove:
It's really not that hard, I mean, mainly, I've just kind of been myself. It seems really cool, for me to even think that I'm a role model for kids. That's like, the coolest thing.
The Star Scoop:
How do you manage school and work?
Cosgrove:
I have like four hours a day, actually. I'm on set, and I have a teacher there, a studio teacher, and I do pretty much work with her. We just have a normal classroom and I do pretty much all the work my friends do. I have big text books and stuff.
The Star Scoop:
Everyone's seen you grow up [on TV].
Cosgrove:
I think that's really cool. I had a really great time on Drake and Josh. All my friends are always watching old episodes of Drake and Josh, and laughing because I look so little. They're always cracking up about it, and they'll tell me to turn the TV on, because I look so small in the beginning.
The Star Scoop:
What do you want to tell [you fans]?
Cosgrove:
I know everybody has a talent, so I hope they always make their videos and send them in. I can't wait to see it. And also, just thanks for watching, and I hope they enjoy my show.
