Talking a second time with Vivien Cardone to find out what she's been up to since Everwood ended, Vivien talks about her latest movie, her friends, and why she's still just a normal girl.
The Star Scoop:
What have you been up to lately? What’s been going on in your life?
Vivien Cardone:
I just finished a movie called Shadows of Atticus. I worked with Jason London, Vanessa Branch, Peter Coyote. It was a really good cast. Dennis Fallon directed it.
The Star Scoop:
How did you get the role?
Cardone:
I didn’t really audition for it. They just kind of called my mom up, saying, does your daughter want to do this? So she asked me, and I basically said, yeah, I want to do it. So we read the script together, and we really liked it. That’s basically how I got it.
The Star Scoop:
Can you tell us about your character, Belle, in Shadows of Atticus?
Cardone:
She is an eleven year-old girl named Belle, and she basically loses her mother, and they all deal with it in their own special ways. She deals with it in a harsh way, she’s sad, and she feels like, what goes on now? Her father, he’s not around anymore, and he’s so busy with his work. He works on an animal shelter. One day, she lets all the animals out of the shelter, and her father gets into a lot of trouble. Belle gets sent off to her grandfather’s farm, which is the mother’s father, to put her to work to change her attitude.
The Star Scoop:
What was your favorite part about filming the movie?
Cardone:
Surprisingly enough, I think my favorite part about doing it was the dirty work. I hated it, but it was so interesting. I got sweaty, but I got to get dirty. I liked seeing everyone. I’ve basically grown another family.
The Star Scoop:
Why will people like Shadows of Atticus?
Cardone:
I think it’s going to be a big hit. I think it’s a good movie for kids, because it’s G rated. It’s a fun movie. You get to see me do a lot of dirty work.
The Star Scoop:
You were on a TV show, and you’ve done another big movie. What would you like to do next?
Cardone:
I think I’m gonna stop the TV shows. I don’t think my family can really handle it. It’s going to be too hard to move back and forth. I think I’m just going to hold off, because it takes to long, you grow a family and then you lose it all, you know? It’s really hard. Maybe when I get older. I think I’m sticking to movies for a while.
The Star Scoop:
What kind of movie would you like to do?
Cardone:
I’d like to a horror movie. I’ve always wanted to do one. I almost had a part in [one], but that didn’t work out.
The Star Scoop:
Do you go on a lot of auditions? How do you find roles?
Cardone:
When I got to New York, to visit my family, because that’s where I’m originally from, they say hey why don’t we have you on auditions, and they’ll get me some stuff, my manager will. In California, I had one audition to go, and it turned into like, five, so that was great.
The Star Scoop:
What kind of things do you like to do these days?
Cardone:
I’m usually just a simple girl – always usually ride my bike around, I play hopscotch with my siblings, hang out with my friends, the usual. I like to hang out with my friends.
You used to love Spongebob Squarepants. What’s your favorite TV show these days?
Cardone:
I have a lot. I like usually the ones on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. I like TeeNick. I lots of favorites on there. I like to watch Nick at Nite. I love Full House, that’s my favorite, I love it
The Star Scoop:
Speaking of being a movie star, is there someone really famous you’d like to work with one day?
Cardone:
Yes, Robin Williams, because he’s hilarious. I’d love to work with him. He’s a funny guy, he seems so nice. I love what he’s done. I love all his movies.
The Star Scoop:
Why do you like acting?
Cardone:
I like the challenge, how many things I can do, how many people I can be. It’s a challenge for me, and it’s a lot of fun. I like to meet new people. I like to try different things. That’s the kind of girl I am.
The Star Scoop:
What would you want to do, if you couldn’t be an actress?
Cardone:
I’d like to cook. I want to go culinary school. You give me a cook book, and I’ll pull my mom over, and I’ll just cook something. I have lots of cookbooks.
The Star Scoop:
How do you balance [your time]?
Cardone:
I do have a lot of time on my hands. On Everwood, I had a huge break one season, so I had a lot of time to hang with my friends, go to school.
The Star Scoop:
What’s your life like when you’re not filming any movies?
Cardone:
I go to a private school, and there’s fifty plus kids in the entire school. It’s very, very hard. They don’t joke around in my curriculum. I go to school, and I just live a normal life. I have my brothers and sisters, sometimes we fight. Yeah, a normal life. And I’m happy with my friends, they don’t treat me like I’m [a] big movie star, they treat me like I’m just a friend, and that makes me happy.
The Star Scoop:
What advice would you give to kids [who want to be actors?]
Cardone:
What advice would you give to kids [who want to be actors?] You gotta get a manager, and an agency, and just get some acting lessons to help you along, to help you know how to do it, and when you go on auditions, my own coach told me that if you’re filming for an audition, don’t look around, just kind of look straight, don’t do one of those looking back and forth things. Just do your best...If you want to get into acting, just do your best, work hard, and have fun doing it.
