Allen Alvarado

Allen Alvarado is a sweet, energetic kid who is known for his role on Flight 29 Down. With a film on the way, we chatted with this spunky 12 year old.

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about what you're working on right now, what you have coming up?

Allen Alvarado:

As for projects, Lower Learning definitely is coming out. That's a feature film, along with a lot of auditioning. Hoping to land one. I just got a callback the other day.

The Star Scoop:

How would you describe the auditioning experience?

Alvarado:

I think it's more like a rollercoaster. It's like a thrill, kind of, where you're like, what's gonna happen this time? What's gonna happen? Is it gonna be a loop or a steep fall? You never know!

The Star Scoop:

Do you get really nervous beforehand or are you more excited about auditioning?

Alvarado:

It's a cross between nervous and excited. I mean, I've only been nervous for like, three auditions. The other ones, I've been excited, because I'm like, Yes! Finally, auditions! Here's the time.

The Star Scoop:

Tell us about how you felt finding out you got the role in Lower Learning.

Alvarado:

Well, I was very excited, because it meant, finally, I have something! I'm so excited! It also means a sense of pride that welled up inside me. I finally had something to do, and it's just so exciting.

The Star Scoop:

Who is your character in the film?

Alvarado:

My name is Miguel, in the movie of course, and my father is a janitor at a school. This little gang of kids walks around and pretty much is just terrible to the janitor, dumps the food on him when he's at the garbage, they use sarcastic remarks toward him. It's just really mean, and the son feels like he has to reject his father.

The Star Scoop:

What did you take away from the film?

Alvarado:

Don't treat janitors badly.

The Star Scoop:

You do Flight 29 Down. How does doing this TV show, on location, compare to doing a film?

Alvarado:

I know it takes a lot longer to do a series, other than a movie, because you're stuck there, and it's a new place. It's a whole new world, and it's something I've never experienced before. It's a lot more exciting. A movie, that's also just as exciting because you start to get familiar with the place and everything you know how it runs. It's gonna be just the same thing.

The Star Scoop:

Do you feel like you want to do more movies in the future or part of more TV shows? What are you looking forward to doing next?

Alvarado:

I'm looking forward to anything that comes my way! Because really, I want to be Conan O'Brien's sidekick.

The Star Scoop:

Have you eve met him?

Alvarado:

No, but I will. I heard he's moving out to L.A., and taking over The Tonight Show, and I will fight my way into the door.

The Star Scoop:

Is there anyone else you'd like to meet?

Alvarado:

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.

The Star Scoop:

Is it because they're so talented?

Alvarado:

Yeah, they're really talented!

The Star Scoop:

What do you do when you're not acting?

Alvarado:

Everything the typical sixth grader would be involved in. Video games. Maybe not so much the reading. I read, but, I don't know. And martial arts. I complained so much about wanting to do one that my parents just finally caved it, and said, Okay, he needs to learn how to do a martial art, let's just get him to it. I actually do it with my dad.

The Star Scoop:

Do you ever feel like because you get to be an actor, you might not get to do everything other kids might do?

Alvarado:

This is my life, and I like it...I'm sometimes jealous of some kids that play baseball and stuff. I like baseball, but I really like acting, because there's really no chance of injury. [There's a] 99.9% chance in baseball.

The Star Scoop:

What do you want to say to everybody?

Alvarado:

Just follow their dreams, really. Because, that's all it started as. It's still a dream for me. Who says it can't happen for anybody else?
