Devon Goocher (and her dad, Kevin)

Devon Goocher and her dad, Kevin

Devon Goocher, who can been seen with her father on I Know My Kid's a Star is a girl with big dreams. With her father by her side, she's sure to succeed. Both Devon and her father, Kevin, talked to us about their experience on the show and as father/daughter.

The Star Scoop:

There are so many ways to get involved in the entertainment industry. Why did you want to do I Know My Kid's a Star?

Devon Goocher

I hope that being on the show will help me get my face out there, and I'll get more opportunities for everything...It's taught me a lot of things about the industry and about what goes on and the experience that I had.

The Star Scoop:

What is the hardest part about the competition?

Goocher:

I think the hardest part about being in a competition is being judged. I love being in the spotlight, and performing for people, but having judges stare me down? It's crazy.

The Star Scoop:

What was it like to be in the house?

Goocher:

I loved being in the house. There were so many things to do. They have everything I could ever want...We got to play games, we could swim, we got to play on a miniature playground. It was so much fun.

The Star Scoop:

Who got along better? The kids or the adults?

Goocher:

I would say the kids got along so much better than the adults.

The Star Scoop:

Do you think you and your Dad work together well as a team?

Goocher:

Oh yeah. We always work well together. We were just glued together.

The Star Scoop:

What is hard about being on a show with your Dad?

Goocher:

We all know this: everybody knows that I'm always right [laughs].

The Star Scoop:

What do you think makes you unique from the other kids?

Goocher:

I think I'm unique because I'm ready to work super hard and I don't need my dad yelling at me like the other kids did. I want the number one CD, and I want the hit TV show, and I want the sold out tour. That's what I want. I want to do it all...I'm going to have to practice a lot, and I'm just going to have to keep on moving on. I can't back down. I'm going to have to audition, and when I have the opportunity, I'm going to need to take it.

The Star Scoop:

Why do you think the show was a good experience for you and your daughter?

Kevin Goocher:

It was kind of tough on me. I think it was tougher on the parents most definitely than it was on the kids. I don't know how to answer that really. It was a good experience. I would do it again for my daughter, but I don't think I would go and be in that house just for myself [laughs].

The Star Scoop:

Did the house add an extra tension to the experience because you're with so many other parents?

Kevin Goocher:

It was tight quarters for us. They had all of the fathers were in one room, the mothers were in another room. The girls had a room, and the boys had a room. It was kind of tough being in a house with that many people with that many personalities, and that much drama going on.

The Star Scoop:

Were the other parents and kids a distraction? Were you still able to work as a team?

Kevin Goocher:

We've always been a team. We were a team before we went into that house. She's been doing this since she was five, six years old. We've been a team, working together for that long. The only thing that was a distraction was there was a couple of the parents that were just over the top drama and that can become a distraction, and kind of take your eye off the prize. We had a good time overall. We did meet some really cool people.

The Star Scoop:

Why do you feel like you're qualified to manage your daughter?

Kevin Goocher:

For Devon, it's not just me. It's her mom as well. I think that her mom possesses certain qualities that help her management from one angle, and I come from a different angle. I come from the music side. That's what I'm interested in, and what I've been doing as far as my own career all these years is basically music. Television, modeling, and acting, that's what her mom did. We as a team, I think, handle Devon as best we can. I'm sure at some point, there'll be a total pro manager that will come along, and at that time, we'll make that decision. But for now, we're [doing] as best we can for our child.

The Star Scoop:

Talk to us about teamwork and the competition.

Kevin Goocher:

For people that watch the show, they will see that it's all about teamwork. It's all about the child and the parent making it happen together. One can't really do it without the other. If you're 18, 21 years old, and you're going out and making you own career, yeah, it's a different story. But when we're talking child stars, it's a totally different ball game as far as that's concerned.

The Star Scoop:

If you could go back and do the show again, would you do everything the same?

Kevin Goocher:

We'd probably do a few things different. This is obviously the first time we've ever gone to Hollywood and been involved in a reality TV show. So it was a brand new experience for us. You just kind of have to take it in as it rolls. But yeah, there's a few things I would do differently.
