THE STAR SCOOP'S REVIEW:
With an overwhelming number of big names signed on, from all aspects of entertainment, Celebrity Duets has been the most talked about show to end out the summer. And folks, summer is going out with a bang! Contestants Cheech Marin, Lucy Lawless, Carly Patterson, Chris Jericho, Jai Rodriquez, Hal Sparks, Lea Thompson, and Alfonso Ribeiro paired up with some of music's best, including Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Randy Travis and Michael Bolton. Wayne Brady took the stage as host, with judges Marie Osmond, Little Richard, and David Foster.
In the special two hour premiere, each contestant sang twice. With so many duets, it's hard to play favorites this early, but top picks include Lucy Lawless and Smokey Robinson's slow serenade, Cheech Marin and Randy Travis's country fun, and Carly Patterson and Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance." Maybe blondes do have more fun, except for hunky Chris Jericho, who went home that evening. While the judges made the decisions for the first night, the rest is in America's hands. If you didn't see Celebrity Duets, you really missed a spectacular show. Yes, America, these stars really can sing! While some of the contestants were nervous, and some were pitchy, all showed tremendous improvement by their second performances. With such progress in a single hour, we can't wait to see how they'll do next week!
Verdict:
Hitting the right note, TV never sounded so good!
