You know this hottie from The Princess Diaries 2. He also stars on HBO’s Dead Like Me. With a sexy British accent, we loved talking to him. Read on for a bloody good interview!
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us how you got into acting in the first place.
CALLUM BLUE:
I come from a very rough area in England, and we didn’t really have much schooling or anything, so I just kind of fell into it in the local theater. It was just something to keep me out of trouble. Instead of kind of having fights on streets and stuff. It was to go and kind of be involved in a theater group. I was probably about 11 or 12 then and I did a few productions there and then just carried on with it really, and I hated school, so that was pretty much it.
THE STAR SCOOP:
The most recent thing you’ve done is The Princess Diaries [2]. How did you get the role in the first place?
CALLUM BLUE:
I filmed that before I filmed the second season of Dead Like Me so the most recent thing I’ve done is the second season of Dead Like Me but the most recent thing that came out is The Princess Diaries. It was just like any job, really. I really, really liked the first one and when I realized that they were making a second one, I demanded to be seen for it. And just to have to audition out of thousands and thousands of people really, I was lucky enough to get called back and called back. I actually had met Anne Hathaway before, because we screen tested together in London for another movie called Ella Enchanted so it was a bit easier than everything else because I knew the leading actress.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Can you tell us about your character in The Princess Diaries 2, Andrew?
CALLUM BLUE:
Andrew is an English duke, part of the royal family, and he is summoned over to Genovia to have an arranged marriage with Anne Hathaway’s character and they don’t quite hit it off because there’s no chemistry between them. But they feel that they have to do the right thing by getting married. So they get engaged and he’s very noble, he’s a gentleman, but he’s a bit of a wet fish, so he’s not very charismatic. And you know, it all goes on from there.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You also got to work with Julie Andrews. What was that like?
CALLUM BLUE:
It was really great. And I think she’s in the perfect movie, because she’s almost like Hollywood royalty. She’s just a really lovely lady, really.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Who or what would you say is the reason for your success in acting?
CALLUM BLUE:
Good question. I think it’s because my mom and my sisters rely on me, and I support them and to do that I need to work. So I work hard at it. And it’s the only thing I can do to make money because I’m stupid in everything else. So I think it’s the fact that my mom and my sisters rely on me and I have to kind of come through with the money for them. They’re my driving forces. They back me up every step of the way. Without them I wouldn’t be here.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What would you say is your best quality and what would you say is your worst?
CALLUM BLUE:
My best quality is my worst quality. I’m very, very honest. In other words, when I’m in interviews, I might say things that other actors will not say.
THE STAR SCOOP:
When you have free time what do you like to do?
CALLUM BLUE:
Oh man, good question. I haven’t had any time off for the last year and a half, basically. I like going on vacations. I rented this house out in the Hollywood hills and its got a sundeck so I just spend most of my time there looking at the view. When you’re an actor, you’re around so many bloody people, that getting away from everybody for once is a real welcomed change.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Do you have any other projects that you’re working on?
CALLUM BLUE:
I’m just finding out about something. I might go to Hawaii to film for a while. I finished Dead Like Me. I’ve only had a couple of days to audition, so, you know.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Could you choose just one question that you would like to answer and then answer it, about anything?
CALLUM BLUE:
Oh my god, that requires some imagination. Wow. Where do I see myself in ten years? And where I see myself in ten years is on my own island, with my own helicopter, with nobody around, and a shark for a pet.
