What would you say makes the MUXO handbag line stand out?
CAMILA ALVES:
The line was created by my mother and I, and we wanted to make something that was unique and that wasn’t already out in the marketplace. I wanted to give people something that was exactly what they needed.
I think it is important that a woman feels like the bag was made just for her. The collection is hand-stitched and heavy on details. All of the leathers are weathered and distressed or embellished with beautiful fringes.

Do you have a favorite item in the line?
CAMILA ALVES:
The Queen of the Sea and the Malibu are two of my favorites.

What can you tell us about the design process?
CAMILA ALVES:
I started the line with my mother and we used a lot of inspirations from the places we have spent a lot of time- Brazil, New York and LA. We use all Brazilian leather which we select for its ability to adapt to different finishing treatments.
I also took inspiration from the beauty of the water and the mystery surrounding it. It is very rewarding to see the final product of something we have created and is personal to us.

What else should people know about your MUXO handbag line?
CAMILA ALVES:
Every bag can be customized to your liking–color, style, anything so there is something practical and fashionable for every woman.

Your bags and designs have been featured in many of today’s hottest magazines! What has helped you succeed as a designer and what advice do you have for aspiring designers?
CAMILA ALVES:
I am happy with the success the line has had so far and I am excited for the future of MUXO. To aspiring designers, I would just say that you should take inspiration from where you come from, what you know, what there is a need for and how you can accomplish that.
