Camille Mana Exclusive Interview #2

Camille ManaCamille Mana, known for her role on One on One has not one, but two movies about to come out, and they’re schedule for the same day! Two on one…day means Camille’s career is taking off, and we couldn’t be happier for this lovely star on the rise.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Which of your movies is coming out first, Smart People or College?.

CAMILLE MANA:
Actually they’re coming out on the exact same day! They’re both on April 11th. I heard there’s a possibility that College could push a little, but right now they’re both officially April 11th. I shot Smart People first. Hopefully they’ll both open really big at the box office?

THE STAR SCOOP:
What is Smart People about?

CAMILLE MANA:
Smart People
is from the producer of Sideways, Michael London. It’s about Dennis Quaid [as] this widowed English professor. He sort of learns to get over his wife’s death and be a good dad and a good professor, sort of like learn to love again and be a good guy. That’s sort of the arch of the movie. It’s really funny. Tonally, it’s similar to Sideways. Ellen Page and Ashton Holmes play the kids to Dennis Quaid. It’s a dysfunctional family dramedy/love story I guess. I’m really happy to be along for the ride, so grateful to be involved in the project.

One on One had sort of gone on the wayside when the CW merger happened, and I go, Okay, well, what’s next. There wasn’t a better movie than this to have gotten as my next job. I’m so grateful.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Who is your character in the movie?

CAMILLE MANA:
I play Missy Chin. She’s Dennis Quaid’s sort of antagonistic student, and his son’s girlfriend. It was really intimidating at first, going out there. This is actually my first big feature. I’d come off television, and I was used to doing that. As you’re moving forward in your career, you have to learn to adapt to bigger things. I was up for the challenge, but I was definitely a little intimidated at first. Dennis Quaid could not have been more supportive and awesome and easy to work with, and really welcoming. They were just amazing.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about College?

CAMILLE MANA:
I was so excited that this was my next job. It’s a teen comedy. I love movies like that. I wanted to do one! It’s got a really young, hip cast: Drake Bell, Nick Zano. It was a really fun experience. It was really different from Smart People, because it was like, Okay, I’m the one person nobody knows who they are movie, everyone else is huge. College is okay, we’re all young up and commer actors. It’s definitely raunchy, fun, teen comedy, very, very raunchy. Kids, bring your parents.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What is it like to be in the position of a rising star?

CAMILLE MANA:
It’s such a weird thing. There’s a lot of times, people will be aware of who I am, and then sometimes, you walk into auditions, and still, nobody knows who the heck you are. It’s hit or miss. Sometimes people are aware of what you’ve got coming up, and sometimes people have never heard of you. It’s kind of cruel [laughs]. I had some people chase me in the subway one day. I’m really such a nobody. I feel like. Then random things like that will happen [laughs]. It’s definitely something I’m figuring out now. I don’t like to get ahead of myself. I think I’m still totally normal. I don’t think of myself as anything other than what I’ve always been.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What else is going on at the moment?

CAMILLE MANA:
In between One on One and Smart People and College, I actually produced something, and it was just for fun, and it was a short film called Equal Opportunity, and it ended up winning a development deal with NBC. It’s taking me down this other path of producing. I made a lot of contacts in that area. This is my way of branching out. I’m producing a feature right now. It’s not coming out for a long time. This is sort of like me trying to take creative control over which direction I’d like my career to head in. That’s been pretty time consuming, because I’m trying to juggle between I have to go audition for this movie, and I have to go audition people for my movie. I feel like I’m learning to wear all these different hats. It’s exciting.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Going back to where we began, with the movies you are promoting, why should people go out and see Smart People and College

CAMILLE MANA:
Smart People
I think sells itself because everyone already loves the stars. The previews look phenomenal. For College, it’s a fun, raunchy comedy. It actually does push the envelope!
