THE STAR SCOOP:
Why did you get into acting?
HAILEY MCCANN:
One of my uncle’s friends was an agent, and I was at his birthday party, and I got up on stage and sang happy birthday to him, and she was like, oh, she’s cute, send me her pictures. So it was just kind of in the back of my mom’s mind and she sent in the pictures and I got a couple interviews with a couple agencies. That was kind of the beginning.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Do you feel like you still get to do a lot of normal kid stuff?
HAILEY MCCANN:
It’s definitely hard to balance. I play very competitive softball as well. School is my main focus, so it gets hard sometimes but it all works out. I’ve never really missed a game because I had an audition. My mom’s pretty good about working everything out.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You’re part of The Time Traveler’s Wife. What was it like working with all the different actors in the film?
HAILEY MCCANN:
I had such a good experience. This was my first big movie and I had so much fun. We shot in Canada and Chicago, so we got to travel a little bit. That was really cool. Eric and Rachel were just so nice to work with. They’re great actors. They’re really funny and really welcoming. The director was amazing. He’s so nice and he did a really great job. Everybody was just very cool to work with.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You played the same role as your sister. Did you like sharing the role?
HAILEY MCCANN:
Yeah, definitely. It was really cool to get to work with my sister. We hadn’t really done anything with each other before, and it was just really fun getting to work with each other because we both love to act. Getting to work together was just even better.
THE STAR SCOOP:
If people haven’t seen The Time Traveler’s Wife, why should they go see it?
HAILEY MCCANN:
It’s just an amazing love story. It’s so heavy, but it’s such a good movie. I think it was kind of funny…I made myself cry when I watched it [laughs]. It’s just a really good movie.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What do you want to do next? Any other projects?
HAILEY MCCANN:
Well right now I’m not working on anything. Just keep auditioning and see where it takes me. Probably my dream role, what I would love to do is play a psychopath, like a serial killer or something. That would just be really cool to play, being so crazy. A big challenge to just play something so far out there.
