Meet Krysten Ritter, who can be seen currently on Gilmore Girls. With a slew of roles lined up, she’s one to keep an eye on, and might very well be, the next big thing. And if she is, you can bet she won’t forget where she’s been, like Mars, and hanging with the Girls.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You’ve had the opportunity to be part of two major shows, Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. How has your career changed since?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
My career has changed in a few ways actually – all of them good. I’m so lucky to be working on cool shows and in return I’m getting great exposure, which will hopefully keep the work coming in! More people seem to know me; the casting directors know my work – and seek me out to read for things- I’m getting better and better auditions. Of course the more I work and the more people see me; the more opportunities there are.
THE STAR SCOOP:
How much longer does your character, Lucy, get to stick around with “the Girls”?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
You’ll have to keep watching to find out!
THE STAR SCOOP:
We noticed that you’ve had some smaller roles in the past in the films you’ve done. How will you continue to bridge the gap to getting bigger roles?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
I have had a lot of small parts; and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Each thing is a building block. It often starts out that way for actors. Especially ones like me who weren’t child actors, and didn’t grow up in the biz. I hope to bridge the gap by continuously working hard, and getting exposure. I have been up for some really great parts lately. I guess it’s all just a matter of the right role coming around. When it does I’ll be ready for it! In the words of Woody Allen “eighty percent of success is showing up”.
THE STAR SCOOP:
How have you worked your way into Hollywood thus far?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
Worked my way into Hollywood. Hmmmm. Well I live in NY and when I’m in LA I live in Silverlake- so I’m not actually in Hollywood- I’m a few miles east. Just kidding. I know what you mean. Again with the ³showing up² (note- I try to show up 15 minutes early to almost everything – there’s a real science to arrivals – but that’s a whole other interview). It’s really all about hard work, and preparation meeting opportunity. I think that goes for anything – not just “Hollywood”. It’s important to have a good sense of your self, have a point of view and good training. I’ve also been really lucky in that the people I’ve worked with want to work with me again, and the casting directors keep calling me in- and a lot of people are pushing for me. (THANK YOU!)
THE STAR SCOOP:
Can you tell us some of your attributes that make you unique from other working actors in the business?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
I don’t know if it makes me unique but I’m incredibly grateful for where I’m at and I try to approach everything that I do in a really positive and professional way. Plus I’m a dork. I don’t know.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Do you want to pursue anything besides acting? There’s some buzz about music.
KRYSTEN RITTER:
Obviously my focus is on acting, but I’m a creative person and I like to constantly be doing things. So, in addition to acting I am also a writer and a musician. Actually one of my TV pilots that I wrote and created is currently in development, which I am VERY excited about! And as for the music you can check out some of my songs on myspace under EX VIVIAN. I will be putting out an EP in 2007. Myspace is such a great way to get things out there for people to hear.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Where do you want to go next? What’s ahead for you in the long term?
KRYSTEN RITTER:
I want to do more films and get some really badass roles. I’m interested in projects that really inspire me and challenge me. I did a play this summer at Second Stage in NY and definitely caught the stage bug. I just want to do a lot of acting – I love it! Broadway, the big screen, small screen, work with directors and actors that I admire and respect, continue writing and making music. Long term – I just want to keep doing what I love – and loving what I do. Thanks so much [for] interviewing me!
