Patricia Kara Exclusive Interview

Patricia KaraYou can see Patricia Kara on the hit game show, Deal Or No Deal. With an array of hosting gigs under her belt, viewers might recognize her from the world of entertainment – she’s hosted on TV Guide covering the Golden Globes, or from the world of fitness where she’s been in commercials and graced magazines. But right now, the actress, model, and host is “dealing” alongside Howie Mandel.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How did you become involved with Deal or No Deal?

PATRICIA KARA:
I got involved with DOND through my hosting agent. I went to the casting, got a call back and got the job. When I went to the casting I almost left. I thought they were casting for a model’s reality show. It wasn’t what I was looking for and they assured us it wasn’t. We didn’t have many details of what the show was about. I figured I would stick around since I was already there and see what happens. You just never know. I could always say no later if it was something that wasn’t right for me. Glad I stuck around.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Why do you think the contestants get so riled up on the show? Do they forget there are millions of people watching them?

PATRICIA KARA:
I think contestants get riled up for different reasons or many reasons combined. It’s so different once you are actually there playing the game on set and not in your living room screaming at the television. It’s so easy to say you’ll play the game a certain way, but once you are there it’s easy to lose control. People get nervous and excited. They get caught up in the moment. They want to get to the goal, a million dollars! I don’t think they are thinking about the millions of people that are watching.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How has your hosting experience in the entertainment business helped you in your real life?

PATRICIA KARA:
My real life has actually helped me in my hosting experience in the entertainment business. I have always been outgoing, outspoken and very inquisitive and that’s why I do what I do. It’s a natural part of who I am.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Can you give us a little background on yourself so fans can get to know who you are, other than the lovely lady they see on the game show?

PATRICIA KARA:
I started modeling in Chicago when I was 16. I was based there for years while traveling all over with work. I was also a professional dancer. I then moved to New York and that’s where I started acting and hosting and from there moved to L.A. In between everything I always try to go back to Greece as often as I can to visit my family. I love being active and busy and always on the go. I love traveling, I love kids, I love learning new things. There is so much to do and I try to do it all.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How did you become involved in this business?

PATRICIA KARA:
To get started in the business I had some pictures taken and I started to go to all the modeling agencies. Some had open calls, others I had to send my picture in and try to get appointments. I constantly pursued it. Then I started to go to all kinds of castings and booking jobs here and there. It became a full time job. I built up my resume, made lots of contacts and kept going…and still am.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are you working on currently? Any projects coming up?

PATRICIA KARA:
Currently I have been working as a special correspondent for Extra, Deal or no Deal, the film Noir and hosted the Motion Picture Television Fund TV for the Catherine Zeta Jones benefit for the second year. She raises money to help the retirement community. It’s an amazing event and a great cause. I have also been continuously working on various print ads.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You’re in really good shape! How do you do it?

PATRICIA KARA:
Thank you! I do a lot of running around, as well as constant power walking. Sometimes I change it up with running, hiking, kickboxing, or rollerblading, depending on my mood and schedule. And I dance every chance I get. Eating regularly through out the day, I try to eat healthy, but I don’t deprive myself of the junk food either.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Hollywood is full of gorgeous, slim, and talented women. What do you have to do to set yourself apart, and get a job?

PATRICIA KARA:
There are a lot of beautiful women in Hollywood. I really don’t think about trying to set myself apart. I just do my thing day in and day out. I try to stay true to myself and do the work. I work really hard and pursue the thing I love to do. I enjoy the process and let things fall into place. It is a lot of work, but I just keep going. Sometimes I am right for the job, sometimes it’s someone else. There is something for everyone, it’s just what you put into it and what the job is looking for. I don’t take things personally.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Where will you be in 10 years?

PATRICIA KARA:
Well, in 10 years I will still be working in the entertainment business. I will be working with children, spending more time in Europe, dancing my ass off and I am sure there will be lots more to do. Whatever comes my way, you just never know.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Just for fun – If you had the opportunity to compete on any game show, what would you choose?

PATRICIA KARA:
I would compete on DOND. It would be cool to be on the other side, playing the game. It would be interesting to see how it would play out especially after watching all these contestants and their outcome. It would be a blast!!! And maybe, just maybe I would win the million dollars. Woo-hoo!!!!
