Spencer LockeSpencer Locke, known on both Nickelodeon and Disney Channel for her guest roles takes her talents to the big screen in executive producer Steven Spielberg’s Monster House, as Jenny. In 2007, look for her in Resident Evil: Extinction. Bubbly and sweet, Spencer has all the enthusiasm necessary for one who is ready to take a chance at stardom. And with her skill, spunk and, stellar attitude, the odds are in her favor.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Give us some quick facts about yourself.

SPENCER LOCKE:
I’m going into 10th grade. I’m from Orlando, Florida, but I moved to Los Angeles three years ago with my family. I have an older sister, she’s eighteen. My favorite color is yellow.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Fans will recognize you from Phil of the Future. What was that experience like?

SPENCER LOCKE:
Oh, that was so much fun. I loved working on Phil of the Future. Actually, Amy Bruckner, who plays Pim, we became best friends while filming. It’s really fun working with my best friend.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You’ve got a role in Monster House. Tell us about that.

SPENCER LOCKE:
It was such an amazing experience. We filmed it two years ago. So, finally, it’s coming out. It’s done motion capture. We go inside, it’s called The Volume. It’s twenty by twenty foot space, and we do the scene by scene, just like any regular movie, but there are 200 infrared cameras around us and we’re wearing sweat suits with the sensors all over our bodies. The cameras around us, they see the sensors. People assume that it’s just a voice over, like any other animation, but we actually did all of the acting. I’ve seen it five times. It was amazing in 3D.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You will also be seen in Resident Evil: Extinction. How is that going?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I finished filming two weeks ago. It was so cool to be going from Mo-Cap to being in 144 degree desert weather. I got to play such a different character than what I’m used to. I’m thinking that they’re going to release it September 2007.

THE STAR SCOOP:
While we’re on the subject of acting, how did you get involved?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I started in Orlando, Florida. I took a couple acting classes. I absolutely loved it. I had a big imagination, so acting classes were the best thing in the world for me. I got an agent in Orlando; I did as much as you can do in Orlando, Florida, when it comes to acting. Then I came out to Los Angeles, and I made the move with my whole family. I’ve been doing great ever since.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You’re a young actress. What do you think it takes to have longevity in this career?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I think that you have to be smart about the characters that you play. I think that you have to be picky with the movies. I definitely want to make this into a longtime career, so I am trying to take my time in the parts that I play. I’m in no hurry to do it all at once; I’m going for the longevity, definitely. You have to be smart about what characters you play, which is why I’m so excited for Resident Evil. I’m playing such a different, amazing character, whom I’ve never played before. I’m looking forward to playing harder characters. It’s really exciting.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How do you deal with rejection, or finding out that you didn’t get a role?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I really feel that nobody can take away something from you that God means for you to have. That’s how I look at everything. I think that everything does happen for a reason. With that attitude, it would be a lot harder if I didn’t have that attitude, obviously. There’s enough for everybody. I’m just having a great time. I truly do believe that everything happens for a reason so I never get bummed about not getting a part or anything, which is great.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are your interests, besides acting?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I love to take dance classes with my friends. I like to go swimming; I love to go to the beach. I am so extremely pale. I never get any color. I have to go fully clothed, or else I will be burned as can be. I love to be with my friends, hang out, I like to make movies, with my friends, we make little movies. I guess because, we’re all, you know, pretty much actors, so we’re all interested in that.

THE STAR SCOOP:
If you were sitting with a fortune teller right now, what do you think she’d say about how your future looks?

SPENCER LOCKE:
Ooooh, um, what I would like for her to say, hopefully, hopefully, hmm, hmm. I don’t know! That would be cool to ask. I hope that she says that Monster House is nominated for Best Animated Film, and it will do very well, and that I will have a long career in this business. How’s that?

THE STAR SCOOP:
Speaking of the future, do you have any other projects that you’re working on?

SPENCER LOCKE:
Nothing at the moment. A couple auditions; we’ll see what happens with those. I’m going to Florida to visit my family.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Anything else to add?

SPENCER LOCKE:
I like you [laughs].

THE STAR SCOOP:
We like you too, Spencer!
