Texas Battle is a versatile actor who is a soap star by day and a movie star by…well, whenever he manages to fit movies into his already busy schedule! We talked with Texas about his upcoming films, Hittin’ the Bricks, Dragon Ball, and more.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about Hittin’ the Bricks.
TEXAS BATTLE:
Well, Hittin’ the Bricks is basically based off a novel. It’s set in New York. It’s about two guys Tiburon and Fuego who are in conflict with each other. Fuego is faced with the fact that he owes Tiburon this favor and he has to pay back him with money or loyalty. My character is Mello, and I come in because I’m actually dating Fuego’s sister, Eva and to pay Tiburon back, he decides to give him his sister/my girlfriend. Basically, I try to stop him and there is a lot of great drama that occurs between the two characters. My character is an artist, he’s also a potential rap star. Basically I’m fighting for my love, for Eva.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Who will Hittin’ the Bricks appeal to?
TEXAS BATTLE:
I think [the] east coast, Detroit, New York; it’s definitely going to hit the urban community as well as the Latino community. I think overall, it’s a great film to watch because it also goes through the struggles of the urban/Latino community in New York.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You also have Dragonball coming up. Why did you want to be involved?
TEXAS BATTLE:
When I first heard of Dragonball, I had no idea how huge Dragonball was. When I actually went out for the part and I got a role in it, it amazed me how huge and how big the fan base was. It’s one of those cartoons. It’s popular overseas in Asia, as well as in the states. It’s just one of those exciting roles, where a character named Goku, played by Justin Chatwin, goes through a journey to find the seven Dragonballs. The character I play is Carey Fuller. I am his [Goku's] rival, and I don’t like him because of just who he is, and we kind of get into it and we have a fight scene together. It has a great cast, Chow Yun-Fat, Ernie Hudson, Richard Blake. I’m definitely excited, and when that hits, I think it’s going to be one of those blockbuster movies. It comes out in April 2009.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You’ve done TV work, on the soap The Bold and the Beautiful. How do these movie roles compare?
TEXAS BATTLE:
[On] The Bold and the Beautiful, we’re shooting actually eight episodes in four days, so the work load is a lot heavier, and it’s a lot of dialogue to learn. But the actual experience right now is great. I’ve worked with a wonderful cast. Everyone gets along. Very fast paced. We only get usually one take, and either you nail it or you don’t, but we have to move on because of the time schedule. So you have to come to work prepared. It doesn’t really differ too much from film. You always have those moments, those looks, you gotta look back, might have to talk to yourself, but overall, it’s just work. Those people at the soaps put the same exact hard work that the TV and film actors do. There’s no difference.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You appeal to a lot of different types of people. What is your fan base like?
TEXAS BATTLE:
I can tell you one thing, that the soap world is unbelievable. The fans in the soap world, they love it so much, they don’t miss a beat. I’m on the street and they’re calling me Marcus. They want to know what’s going on in the next episodes. It’s all about the drama. I play a character – he’s one of these characters that I play that I’ve never played before. Marcus is one of these guys who he is vulnerable, as well as he just wants to get to know his mom…Who wouldn’t want to be part of a great storyline like that, that’s never been done before on B&B. I like the challenge.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You have such a variety of roles; it doesn’t seem like you have been typecast at all.
TEXAS BATTLE:
That’s one thing I was definitely striving for when I started in this business. I can definitely play the jock, I can play the badass. I wanted a range. It’s hard to do. You have to make sure you stay away from being characterized as just this one actor who can play this role only…as an actor you always want to go into a project being something different.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Do you have other projects coming up?
TEXAS BATTLE:
Right now we have a project that’s in the works. It’s called Hang Time. We’ll see how that plays it. It depends on my work schedule. It’s based on a true story. The story takes place in New Jersey. We’ll be shooting that this summer. We’ll see how that goes.
THE STAR SCOOP:
To your fans reading this right now, what do you want to say directly to them?
TEXAS BATTLE:
I would say to all the fans out there that watch Texas Battle in any project, I thank you for the love support. Definitely keep tuning into Bold and Beautiful, because it’s definitely going to be one of those twists to come. I’m falling for one of the Forresters. And everyone knows that the Forresters and the Logans do not get along. My fans don’t want to miss Dragonball, because it’s going to be one of those blockbusters, and Hittin’ The Bricks is going to definitely stand out as being one of those cultural moments in the urban community. Definitely contact me at www.myspace.com/texasbattle, or you can write to The Bold and the Beautiful at CBS Studios in California, and I will definitely respond or send you pictures, or whatever the case is. The fans make me, and I love them. Without the fans, we’re nobody.
