Christina Grimmie Interview: “Very shocked”

THE STAR SCOOP:
What was your decision process for when you first decided to go on YouTube?

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
One of my best friends, Lauren, actually convinced me. One day, it was during the summer, I was just kind of bored, didn’t know what to do. I was just like, you know what, Lauren told me a while ago that I should put something on YouTube.

I did a Hannah Montana song as my first one. It was kind of a newer song by her, so I was like, maybe it will catch some attention. That one did pretty well, and then “Party in the USA” I put up a little bit after. Then things just kind of went from there.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Were you surprised by how quickly it happened? For some people, they’re posting multiple videos and it takes time for them to get noticed. But for you it started up right as soon as you got going!

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
Yeah. I was very shocked because I’ve wanted this kind of thing my whole life. I’ve always wanted to sing. I had no idea that YouTube was that big of a deal. Until Justin Bieber…Justin Bieber was really getting popular when I was kind of not…so I was like,  oh, well maybe it will happen to me. But I did not expect that at all.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Recently, you were featured at #15 on the Billboard Social, which just came out. How does that feel? You were one of the only YouTube singers on there!

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
That was really cool. I found that out yesterday, I think. Billboard is a really big deal, so I was freaking out. I’m only on YouTube, and then I saw I was beating Beyonce. And I like Beyonce a lot [laughs], so that was like, wow!

THE STAR SCOOP:
A lot of people, when they heard that we were going to be doing this interview, wanted to know more about working with Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider on the “Just a Dream” video.

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
A while back, I did a Miley Cyrus medley with Kurt and he was great and I met Sam. We were actually planning on doing  duet as well. But it turned out we just didn’t have much time to do that. So we had to wait and a couple months later, I got to meet up with Kurt again to record a couple songs for a demo and it turned out that we had time to a video with Sam.

I’m so happy that we waited to do that. I think this duet really helped me and Kurt a lot. And also it really helped Sam, and I think it turned out really well.

THE STAR SCOOP:
A lot of fans really love your signature hairstyle that you have in all your videos. Are you planning to change it any time soon?

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
I definitely get a lot of compliments on my hair, but I don’t actually plan on changing the poofiness of it anytime soon. I actually just changed it a little bit recently. I had it dyed a little darker and I got bangs straight across. I haven’t put up a video really showing that besides my new Thanksgiving one. You can’t really see it that well in that. A lot of people really like it!

THE STAR SCOOP:
We know you’re a huge Zelda fan. You really like video games. We thought we would find out what video game system  you think is the best?

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:

My personal favorite is Nintendo 64 because it’s so classic. I’m an NES fan. I like the Wii as well, but I think it’s a little too much for me because I’m very classic. I like the the classic remote. I like moving around, don’t get me wrong, but I’m just so…classic. I’m an Xbox person, but not as much as my brother. He’s a very big Xbox person. I’m definitely an NES, 64 lover.

THE STAR SCOOP:
With the Billboard list and all of the success  you’ve had recently, what’s on the horizon for you? Do you have any plans for what you’re going to do next?

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
Just exploring my record label options and going to send out a demo around January. That’s going to be pretty exciting. A lot of people are surprised I’m not signed yet, but I’ve been getting that, oh, why aren’t you signed? That’s kind of what’s coming up that’s new. Other than that, it’s really just me making my videos.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Is there anything that you would like to say to all your fans and to everybody who has watched your videos?

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE:
All my fans…oh my gosh! Every single one of them, every single one…they’re so special. I love every individual. When I opened up for Selena for that UNICEF thing, I really got to come in contact with them and talk to them. That was great. After that, I love them even more.

They’re the reason that I’m here. I want to also thank God because God is the other reason that I’m here. But my fans are great, and they’re pretty much the main reason that I’m even where I am. So thank you all my fans! I love you so much!
