THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us how you got involved with Soulja Boy.
JA-BAR:
I met Soulja a few years back. We just stayed friends for a few years and then one day I had made a song, playing around, and he liked it. He went back on tour and then called me from out of the country and he was like, Ja-Bar, you wanna rap for real? And I was like yeah! And he was like, cool. He said, I’m going to fly you to my label and we’re going to do this. He said keep recording this stuff, and I’m going to link up with you when I get back. He finally came home and that’s when we just started really recording more. I graduated from school and after graduating school, I just stayed on the road with Soulja like every day from that point until now.
THE STAR SCOOP:
How would you describe your sound to people who haven’t heard it yet?
JA-BAR:
I would say…I don’t know. It’s different. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m called.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You have your single, “Daze.” How would you describe that and what went into creating it?
JA-BAR:
“Daze” I would say is a hip-hop crossover type song. I was just writing all the stuff I’d been going through on the road. I sat back and I wrote that song. I had a little bit, I decided to go like, [sings] when I’m in a daze, and then he [my producer] was like, yeah record that right now. I went in the booth and recorded it, The next day I had took it to Soulja and I let him hear it. He was like, that’s a hit, and he fell in love with it. We did it in August without his verse on it, and it did good, but then after we saw it did good without his verse on it, we just added his verse on it [like] a shocker for the label.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Who do you think the audience is for your music?
JA-BAR:
I am aiming for females but luckily it’s not just females. It’s universal. It’s been a good amount of females and a good amount of dudes liking the song, and little kids liking it too…all around.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about performing live and the response.
JA-BAR:
I’m here on the road now. I’ve been on a promo tour. I’ve been getting real good reactions!
THE STAR SCOOP:
Where do you hope to be in the next couple years?
JA-BAR:
I want to be on top of this game. I want to be that go-to guy. I want to be the person that everybody wants to get all the time.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What do you want to say to your fans?
JA-BAR:
