L.P. Exclusive Interview

L.P.You may not know L.P. yet, but you will soon. L.P.’s song, “Wasted” was featured as the theme song for the second season of The N’s South of Nowhere. However, that was only the beginning for this emerging artist. We caught up with the lady behind the L, the person behind the P to find out where you can hear her next.

THE STAR SCOOP:
You do the theme song for South of Nowhere, but sometimes one song is not the whole story. What is your sound like?

L.P.:
I guess you could say the sound ranges from rock/pop to big dramatic ballads…in any song I’m trying to take you from 0-60 emotionally in 3-4 minutes…one of my faults musically is probably giving it away vocally on every song…I’m just that kind of person…I want you to know I’m there.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Do you write your own songs or music? How much input do you have with your albums?

L.P.:
I have no input at all…I’m a complete drone…I don’t have a thought in my head…(insert laugh track)…I write both words and music…I mostly collaborate but I usually have a couple of songs on an album that I write alone….I really enjoy collaborating with people…because while you’re writing you get approval from the other person as to whether you’re going in the right direction…or their opinion of the right direction and you feed off that…but sometimes it’s an intrusion so the songs that I don’t want anyone f****** with I keep to myself…I have A LOT of input let’s just say.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How did you know this was the right path for you?

L.P.:
There was a little line of popcorn leading the way.

THE STAR SCOOP:
As said you do the theme song for South of Nowhere. What is the song about and what is the story behind it?

L.P.:
Are you ready? It’s really gay and not in the good way…it’s about living your life with someone you really dig …to the fullest and wasting away/getting older with them but enjoying it all the way…awwww…shoot me.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Have you seen any change in your fan base or recognition since the show using your song?

L.P.:
I basically can’t leave the house…actually it’s a younger crowd…they contact me through myspace (www.myspace.com/lprock) and leave comments and become friends…the 14-18 year olds who can’t get into bars and clubs yet…I’m used to fans who can drink…in fact it feels really good that it’s not just the drunk bastards who dig it…sweet.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Your dream duet is with… (or, who would you most like to collaborate with in the future?)

L.P.:
I would love to sing a duet with Bono or Cyndi Lauper…I would love to collaborate with them too come to think of it.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Who have been your musical influences thus far in your career?

L.P.:
Nirvana, U2, Jeff Buckley, Janis Joplin, The Pretenders, The Doors, Chris Cornell, Green Day, Pat Benatar, Aretha Franklin, The Stones, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Maria Callas.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How is L.P. the artist different from L.P. the person?

L.P.:
She (the artist…I go by a symbol now btw) is way more drama than I (the person) am…I hide my personal s*** a little more…she helps me stay sane… bless her little heart…

THE STAR SCOOP:
Why should fans go out and buy your album?

L.P.:
Cuz it’s on sale and you get a free unisex shaving razor with it.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are you up to currently and what can we expect from you in the future?

L.P.:
I recently signed with a major label (Island/DefJam)…so they’ve had me writing for the last 9 months…no touring at all which has been a real change of pace since I had been on the road for 4 years straight basically…it’s been really cool…I’ve written literally in the neighborhood of 60 songs so I’ve been pretty busy…so I’m gonna be recording the record soon and hope to be on the road heavy by late spring…and then lots of trashed hotel rooms and debauchery to follow… ; )
