THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us when you knew that music was the route for you and this was what you wanted to do.
LAZARUS:
I didn’t even think about writing a song until I got a little older in my teenager years where I was having a lot of family problems and just a lot of issues. Music just became the way for me to express myself. As I got older, I started to write more.
THE STAR SCOOP:
How would you describe to people what your music sounds like?
LAZARUS:
A lot of times, I always get, oh, he’s got the vulnerability of Tupac or whatever. I wouldn’t like myself to say that I’m like anyone but if you had to say this is what it sounds like, I’m not trying to emulate anybody’s style. My music is just based on me being as real as I am and myself, revealing parts of my life and being vulnerable with myself. It’s about being true to me. As long as it’s true to me…then I’m never being dishonest and lying to myself. The truth hurts but once we face the truth, that’s when we start change. I don’t know who’s out there right now that I sound like. As an artist, I’m being myself. I get lots of things that I’ve got the vibe like 50 Cent…Scarface…just different things. I’m just being an all around artist and being expressive with the way I feel and just laying it out on the line. I think that many listeners out today want to have a sense of realism, which is getting back to where we started. I think it gets back to the human heart, and without the human heart, this world would totally be in chaos.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What do you think is the most important idea or concept or thought that people should get from your music? What do you want them to take away from it?
LAZARUS:
Never give up on your dreams because if you’re not living out your dreams, you’re not living out your passion. Whatever your dream is or whatever you’re passionate about, it’s something that I recommend you go for. It’s all about going for the dream, never giving up. No matter what it is. No matter what obstacle is in my way, I will not let it stop me. And I’m going to continue to push forward because that’s who I am as a human being.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What is something about you that you think is important for your fans to know?
LAZARUS:Something interesting to know about me is that I’m an open book for my fans. There’s no fabrication here, any fantasy world. Everything that I express, everything I write about is a real life experience of my own. It’s mine. You know that whenever you are listening to my record, and you’re listening to Lazarus, whatever it is that I’ve put out, you know that it was close to me. You know that it was part of my life and I lived it. You know that it was something that you will be able to relate to and connect with me. So you know what, I went through that shit. It’s about everything I’ve been through…these are some of the emotions that I struggle with, some of the things I battle within myself internally. You know, I’m a Buddhist. I’m a practicing Buddhist…I’m a person that believes in being well rounded. My album also expresses how well rounded I wanted my album to be.
THE STAR SCOOP:
As you continue forward with your career, where do you see yourself in the future?
LAZARUS:
Well, I just did film. We just finished shooting for it…I’ve been looking at pursuing the acting side of it. It’s very interesting and even more revealing and more vulnerable than I ever imagined. It puts me in a place where I’m looking to continue on that path as well. I enjoy opening up and being vulnerable. It’s almost like, therapeutic.
