TheStarScoop.Com spoke to Lindsey and Kristy Landers about being an “Official Hot Mess,” music, each other, and more!
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about your sound for people who aren’t super familiar with you yet and what they should expect to hear.
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We’re in a band called Official Hot Mess. Our music has been featured on shows like The Jersey Shore, The Hills, The City, and My Super Sweet Sixteen and we have really fun, pop rock music. We try to have a song that can fit every mood that our fans can relate to.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What is the main avenue where people are learning about you?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
I think all of our placements have been really great as far as exposure goes. I know we’ve been so excited about some of the placements, like on The Jersey Shore, we saw The Situation first-pumping to our music or on The City when Whitney and her boyfriend broke up, our song was the perfect breakup song for them. And I think having our music placed on these shows is a really great way to showcase the relatability of the songs and it’s been a great opportunity for us to expand our fan base.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Who is your fanbase? What is the group that your music appeals to?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
I don’t think we have a really specific age group or anything too specific because anybody can find a connection to our music or love it or anyone can relate to it, so hopefully that will expand to a broad audience.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Is there a message you want people to take away from what they hear when they listen to your music?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We’re going to make music that we love and we want to create music that our fans can relate to. There’s fun and positivity to our music.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about the song “Welcome 2 LA.”
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We were born in Hollywood. Our parents were in the show business industry. Our dad was a professional athlete and our mom was an actress and they moved us as far away from Hollywood as we could get and tried to keep us out of the entertainment business. We ended up in a sleepy little beach town in Florida going to a school for the academically and musically gifted.
We’ve always had a passion for music, and our parents figured that would be a great way to keep us focused and keep us from joining a band. But we still have our creativity. I think our music shows our place in the industry right now. Everybody is so serious and cynical and they’re always trying to bring you down, so if you want to make it, you might as well go out there and be yourself. I guess a major inspiration for “Welcome to LA” derives from the fact that we come from such a small beach town in Florida, it’s really just a culture shock coming to LA and seeing all the crazy things that are happening.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You’re sisters. What’s it like working with each other?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
I think it’s really great because you always have somebody to bounce ideas off of. You always know you have somebody on your team but at the same time, we do argue but we balance each other and respect each other and we’re best friends. I think being in a band together has really brought us closer. It definitely gives us more things that are open for argument, because we can always differ with creative ideas and stuff like that. But we always resolve our difference and we come to mutual consensus together as a team.
THE STAR SCOOP:
You’re going to have a reality show for VH1.
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
Yep, that’s the plan! It’s really going to give our fans an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the crazy antics and the chaos that ensues between us and the guys in our band. It’s going to be a really fun opportunity for us to open our lives to all of our fans and give them a chance to really connect to us and be honest with them.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What should new (and old) fans who watch the show know about you?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
The one thing we want to make sure is portrayed is that we’re really being honest with our fans and we’re opening our lives to them so they can feel like they are a part of it, because they really are such an important part of our lives. Also, I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by the fact that we’re more than just typical reality show blonde bimbos and we actually have a sense of musical ability and we incorporate our personalities and our sense of humor into that.
THE STAR SCOOP:
What message do you have for your fans?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We want them to know that this is us. We’re real, take it or leave it because we’re going to be honest with it. Hopefully they will love it! All of our fans so far have been so supportive. We love them!
THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about playing live and seeing your fans vs. recording.
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We definitely love the creative process of writing and recording, but at the same time, it’s such a special opportunity for us performing live because you get the opportunity to really connect with your fans and see what they like about your live show – what they have good responses to and what they don’t get as excited about – and it really gives you the chance to grow with the audience and be able to connect to them more. There’s nothing that can really compare to the connection that you feel with your fans when you are on stage.
THE STAR SCOOP:
When can fans see you live?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
So far, we’ve had a lot of great opportunities to tour with some incredible musical acts. But we’re looking forward to headlining our own tour coming up soon.
THE STAR SCOOP:
Anything else to add?
LINDSEY AND KRISTY LANDERS:
We’re really excited. We’re getting ready to start production on our second music video for our new single. We’re really excited for everyone to go see it. It’s going to be a fun video. I think people will really like it!
