Sky Blu of LMFAO talks BIG BAD UNIVERSITY!

THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about the collective you’ve launched, BIG BAD UNIVERSITY.

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
We call it a revolutionary lifestyle because we all live together in a big house and we’re all creators..remember that movie, Camp Nowhere? It’s kind of like that. We’re all best friends.

When you surround yourself around people that you learn from, it’s really special. We created something where it’s a University where we learn from each other and we want to grow as a family unit. Like if Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch and all these guys got together when they were younger and started rolling with each other. We aspire to be as successful as those people. That’s the thing about BIG BAD UNIVERSITY. It’s about evolving every day and staying positive.

I’m hoping that the next Steve Jobs needs just a little inspiration, will come our way and we can help him. We inspire the next Jimi Hendrix to do what he wants to do. We just want to inspire people and have people inspire us [and] give back to the world.

THE STAR SCOOP:
We know you, Shwayze, Mark Rosas, and Chelsea Korka are involved. What else should we know about you?

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
We’re all DJs. That’s the thing about it. We all understand how to DJ. We all understand how to produce songs. We make sure that everybody is pretty much self-sufficient, they stand on their own. That’s the most important thing. We’re only brought together by love. It’s not really brought together by a contractual thing or anything like that.

We train as a group. That’s why we call it a revolutionary lifestyle because we’re out here training everybody. We have people that are experts with the DJ equipment that we use to come teach us all the little tricks and things like that. That’s really where the university aspect comes together. It’s a bunch of friends listening to each other to learn and be great.

THE STAR SCOOP:
With how busy and how successful you are with LMFAO, how do you find the time to balance this as well?

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
There’s a lot of time when you travel when you have so much time to work on stuff. I used to work on songs. I hurt my back, so for the last few months I needed rehab.

I couldn’t move so all I could do was kind of sit there and write my songs and come up with ideas and inventions and stuff. My injury made me more productive in the business end…Now I’m better, 100%. I got cleared, I got an MRI.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Tell us about #SEXSONG. What should we know about it?

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
It’s amazing. We make so much music and we don’t really put it out. We really want to have songs that will have a real long lifespan. One day I was working on a little beat and I showed Mark Rosas and then me and him started going…and created #SEXSONG in
like three days.

We named it #SEXSONG. It trended on Twitter, that was pretty cool. Also, all the proceeds on iTunes go to HIV and AIDS awareness and research and prevention across America. It’s a win-win for us.

THE STAR SCOOP:
The other song, “Small Potatoes” is also a really fun song, but different.

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
That’s the thing. Every song we make is really different. The more we learn, the further we can go. Basically, Shwayze was watching a cartoon, and this cartoon came on, and he heard the beginning track, and he was like whoa, that’s pretty dope!

So Mark and him were in New York and had some time in the studio and he’s like, let’s sample this song, let’s make a song with this.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Where do you see all of this going in the next year or two? Do you have any long-term hopes for what you guys are going to produce?

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
Absolutely. I want the University to become something like Harvard where visionaries, people that want positivity and love in their life just want to basically play whatever it is, not just music.

We have a tattoo artist, an amazing artist. We’ve put all our minds together to help him become better in his field, help him with business, help him with things like that. I aspire for BIG BAD UNIVERSITY to become a real university for dreamers.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Is there anything else you think we should know about BIG BAD UNIVERSITY?

SKY BLU of LMFAO:
Shwayze, Mark Rosas and Chelsea Korka are going to release big songs very soon. Big, big pushes, like you’ve never seen before. So be ready for BIG BAD UNIVERSITY. Big time!
